We have a different kind of music store here in Kingston NY. Whatever instrument you play or want to play or whatever flavor of music you’re into, we are passionate about all of it. We play music ourselves and love talking shop, helping people get started, or helping to find that one piece of gear that can give your sound that extra bit of soul. Kris and I have been in and around this business for a long time, recording, playing, fixing, tweaking, and listening to all kinds of music. Though we may disagree on favorite baseball teams, we agree on the right kind of atmosphere musicians want to be around and what to expect from a local music store.

The 50W Jet City Amplification JCA5212RC guitar combo amp uses Jet City’s finest amp components to create a beautiful boutique tube combo that is priced within reach of working musicians. This combo boasts the JCA50H head and two Jet City custom Eminence 12” speakers, with 2 channels, and independent EQ control. Easy-access speaker connectors on the rear panel allow JCA5212RC to drive external cabinets either with or without the internal Jet City Eminence Custom driver. JCA100HDM
Jetcity’s flagship head, based on the popular JCA100H
– two channels of Soldano tone and 100 watts of pure tube power. The Crunch channel has plenty of headroom to deliver clear, bright clean tones and can be driven hard enough to get downright raunchy. The Overdrive channel is the circuit that made Soldano famous. The HDM version also includes the famous Soldano Depth Control, and a Metal front baffle, standard. The 100w / 50w brings the pain from 4 6L6 output tubes in 100w mode, or in 50w more two tubes are turned off causing the power section to work harder to reach the desired output level, resulting in some pretty hot power amp distortion. Rounding out the feature set is the wire-mounted blue LED, just because it looks cool. This LED is socket mounted so it can be replaced with other colors, a daisy-chain of several LEDs, or removed entirely.

This is a 1983 Ibanez Roadstar II that we brought back to life awhile ago. Someone had attempted to install a Kahler tremolo system, using what looked like a butter knife to hack the bridge cavity. Kris cleaned up the gaping hole, and we installed a GFS Analog Delay MOD board, with speed and decay controls that you can control in real time, while you play. This was an awesome project, and has spun many other great ideas for future projects.

Inspect for cold solder joints, loose connections, etc. Correct as needed. Clean and lubricate potentiometers and output jack, tighten mounting nuts.

Andrew Goodsight
Guitar, Bass Guitar, Piano.
Andrew Goodsight was the Bass player for the Irish rock band Black 47 from 1994-2005. Experiencing extensive touring and recording; 2 live CD’s and 5 studio CD’s. Andrew received a gold record for performing guitar on the CD “Deconstructed” for the rock band Bush. The song “Mouth” was featured in the film American Werewolf in Paris and nominated for an MTV music award best song in a film.
He played with Jeff Buckley and is featured on the CD “Grace: The legacy Addition”
Mr. Goodsight has extensive musical theater experience. he was contracted to perform at the Williamstown Theater Festival’s world premier of “The Last Goodbye”, an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet based on the music of Jeff Buckley.
Andrew Goodsight has been teaching music to all ages for over 10 years (guitar, piano and bass).
Jim Barbaro
Guitar, Bass Guitar,
Guitar Teacher, owner and engineer at Natural Recording Studio in Saugerties, NY since 1994. Jim has been teaching, recording, and playing in the Hudson Valley since the early 90’s. Mr. Barbaro was Dustin’s first guitar teacher long ago! Jim regularly plays out with his current band “The Magnetics”.
Matthew Cunningham
Drums.
Matthew is a drummer currently residing in Ulster County, NY. He has been studying percussion since the age of nine, and has performed with a wide range of musical acts, including wind ensembles, jazz groups, and rock bands. He competed both in group and individual competitions for NYSSMA, and earned medals for high scores in those competitions. Matthew has studied and performed with a wide range of musicians in various genre settings, both in New York and in California. A graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz, Matthew holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a concentration in Jazz Studies. He performs and records with various groups throughout the Ulster County area.
Dustin Bryant
Guitar (acoustic or electric), Bass Guitar, Ukulele
Dustin Bryant Started playing guitar at the age of 10, he took lessons for several years from Jim Barbaro. Dustin has played with various bands locally, he released an album titled “inertia” with the band Sound of Silence in 2002. Dustin graduated from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA in 2005. Dustin is the friendly owner of Planet Woodstock Music along with Kris Ostberg. Dustin currently plays Bass guitar in the Rage Against The Machine cover band “No Shelter”, as well as his own solo guitar project “Rodeos & Razorblades” a country & blues style infused with alternative rock influences.

1 on 1 lesson $25 per 1/2 hour. Private lessons are designed around each student. This is a completely individualized lesson from a professional teacher. They teach whatever style or level you want. Weather it’s theory and technique or purely for enjoyment and fun.

2-4 students $20 45min-1hour class. Semi-Private lessons still have the one on one element and are arranged with groups of friends, or students with similar age, skill and desired musical style.

Toby Knapp

Toby Knapp has been teaching guitar for 20 years.
In 1991, Toby was featured in Guitar World’s “Hometown Heroes” column (Oct ‘91 “Metallica” issue)
Toby, along with Mike Varney of Shrapnel Records, recorded the “Guitar Distortion” solo/instrumental album which came out in 1993.
Through the years, Toby has toured the U.S. and Canada extensively as both a hired gun, and with his band “Onward” signed to Century Media Records between 2000-2003.
Toby has worked for a small guitar oriented record label “Shredguy Records”, they released my album “The Campaign” and Guitar World included the title track on their CD ROM (2010 issue of Guitar World, the “Gus G./Ozzy” front cover issue).
Toby’s teaching style concentrates on teaching ear training, theory, various traditional and modern guitar techniques and excels in blues, hard rock, metal.
Mr. Knapp has played and taught the music of virtually every genre. At least half of his students have went on to professional realms of music like teaching, touring and recording.

If you’re nodding your head in affirmation to that question, put down your axe and read on because we have a new show with a custom-built body you’ll want to wrap yourself around. AMPED dives head first into the world enabling the rock stars you know and love; the world of instrument retail. Behind every shredding guitar hero is a team of music die-hards, scientists if you will. These are the people musicians turn to for advice, information, and emergency instrument care. Without them, the world of rock would sit still, but the world of rock isn’t limited to those on stage. The folks who keep the sound waves comin’ are particularly electric themselves. Enter Dustin, Kris, Colin, and Jeromy. These four guys keep Kingston, New York’s Planet Woodstock Music going strong. But this is no ordinary job. This team has learned to expect the unexpected, in and around the Kingston area. Join us as we follow them around the shop and watch their lives that encircle the shop unfold. The rules of business are a little different for this homegrown shop. We’ll bring you their highs, their lows, and, no matter what, some glimpses into an awesome world you’ve probably ignored up until now. The show focuses on the custom guitar work done in-house, the antics of the crew, and the daily drama’s of running a small business in the Hudson Valley. AMPED updates
The first episodes released were a great learning experience for everyone involved. Through everyone’s feed back, Big Guy Media has come up with a new format to make the show more entertaining, and fun to watch!
Big Guy Media has resumed filming (this time, with a fresh “mini episode” format). We are excited about this, as the new episodes will have more insight into the custom builds, & more fun fact information about all the different things that come in and out of our shop.
